Practice Setup
If you don't already know how to set up your game to practice these maps, here's the information:

1.) Load q3, single player, skirmish, choose any map, and don't add any bots, etc.
2.) Once map loaded, pull down console and type /devmap cos1_beta7b
or whatever map you want to load (i.e. DFATC). This loads map with cheats enabled.
3.) Pull down the console, type /god and then use /give all

Special Settings: I highly recommend the following config changes
com_MaxFps 125
ch_drawspeed 1
(Turns on your speed meter)
pmove_fixed 1

You're now all set to start practicing. G'Luck.

Strafe Jumping! Yes - it's not just for kids. It's something YOU can do right now to possibly improve your game. Strafe jumping is a very daunting task to learn (I know, I'm still trying), however, it basically gives you greater speed when jumping and greater distances. With the draw speed command, you can read your speed number and identify exactly what kind of jump gives you the best speed and air. A strafe jump basically is jumping while looking at small left and right angles. Using the technique called circle jumping you can achieve jumps you've only thought cheaters could accomplish. The reason is simply because most people give up on learning it. I think it's worth it. But that's just me.

How to Strafe Jump:
Starting Out (Left) First Strafe (Left) Second Strafe (Right) Third Strafe (Left)
Walk straight ahead, and quickly turn left and into the direction you intend on strafing. Making the turn consists of looking sharply to your left, pressing left, and then immediately jumping after your first step in the new direction. Keep your left key pressed in, while you move to your next jump.

1) Walk forward.
2.) Hold Left, turn left
3.) Jump, holding left.

While your left key is pressed, Jump again while holding down left. Continue to look even further left and down, but in a gradual motion. Yes, this is a second jump, while holding down left. It's much easier to learn to strafe by starting out with 2 left strafes.

start3.jpg (316654 bytes)

1.) Jump again - immediately.
2.) Continue to look slightly more left.
3.) Keep left pressed in.

As soon as you hit the ground, jump again. As soon as you make this jump, let go of left, and press right. When you press this right key, immediately look to your right. Remember to keep your nose down. Not at the floor, but at a slight down angle.

1.) Jump again - immediately.
2.) Press right.
3.) Look to your right.
(All at the same time)

^..........Repeat these steps.........^

Now just keep repeating this motion. Your speed should increase gradually.

To get more speed out of your strafe, you need to learn where exactly to look left and right. There are specific angles in the way you point your view that will give you greater speed. To learn WHERE this sweet spot is, you can practice doing just LEFT strafes against a wall. Make sure the wall is on your left. Start jumping along the wall, with your left key pressed in as well as your forward key, while also looking slightly left and slightly down. As your jumping, watch your speed meter. If your speed is not increasing during your jump, move your view a little. Try various locations. Soon you'll see just where that sweet spot is, when your speed starts gradually climbing! 1000-1500 is an average one sided wall strafe speed.

There are MANY different ways to strafe. I can do several variations. Once you get the basics of it all, you can start to experiment in other ways you can twist your body to achieve greater speed and distance.

Practice Demos
Here are some requested demos, and a couple extra fun demos:

DFATC-Course-Extended - This is again the 6 step main course on DFATC. However, this time, I've done each one a few times and in different ways.
DFATC-DoubleRocket
- This is a double rocket to get from one side of room to the other. Yeah, yeah, many can do this. Though some can't. So here it is.
cos1-RedRoom!
- The eagerly awaited RedRoom. The trick to the curvy wall, is to start turning towards the curve slightly before you even reach it. Therefore you are already in position to slide it at the correct angle.
cos1-PlasmaJump
- In practice for step two of the RedRoom, this shows how to leap over a hole, into a wall, start plasma climbing, switch walls, and get to another ledge. Whew! The trick to leaping a space and smacking a wall only to start plasma climbing, is to come at it at a slight angle. Heading straight for the wall will prove fruitless.
cos1-GreenRoom!
- This shows you each of the green rooms, a couple times, except for the last one, which I still can't seem to perfect. Can you get to the end of it? Please tell me.
cos1-PlasmaFun
- This is Plasma distance tricks. The trick behind getting distance left or right, is to start at a slight angle opposite the direction you're headed. When you get moving up, and reach the desired height, increase your angle so you start moving that direct even faster, while holding your height steady.

If you've got a particular skill you need helpful demo's on, let me know.

Fun Practice Demos
Some demos for fun practice.

DFATC-Course
- This is the 6 step main course on DFATC. I used plasma on the high walls, though a double rocket works too. This is simple, but fun to learn if you can't do it yet.
DFATC-PlasmaFun
- This is a fun plasma trick. Climb one wall, switch walls, and go for red armor on other side of room.
cos1-LittleBlueRoom - Here's a plasma demo for the small blue room in cos1. If you still can't get to the glass roof top, watch this short demo a couple times.
cos1-SpeedStrafing
- I mentioned getting over 2100ups speed strafing down the middle of the long hall. I think this one gets over 2200, but I've been know to go over 2500. Also, try this neat trick: Crouch down backwards, and BFG the floor while jumping. It's called Sliding and I've gotten well over 3kups like that. ;)

Funny Practice Demos
Some demos for total Stupidity!!
The following are some of the most moronic and stupid demo's you'll ever see. They are combinations of tricks and grapple stupidity. I encourage you to watch them at your own risk. Just think campy, backpacking, and touristy when you watch em.

FunnyPlasmaSlide - This is a funny plasma slide demo, notice the retard on his back?
StupidAmmoSwap - This is a stupid stupid stupid stupid demo. So stupid, it's hysterical.
FunnyBlueRoom - This is another stupid backpacker demo in the Blue cos1 room.
DualGrappleOddity - This is a freaky dual grapple oddity. We're at a loss for words.
RetardedStrafeGrapple - Don't feel like making the strafing down the long hall of cos1? Piggyback!
FunnyStrafeJumper
- Learn to strafe jump from a different point of view! From behind! lol
