  OLD News & Events ------

Nov. 24/2003: Another week has come and gone of UFC Tourney play. On Saturday, Shirts played <X>. The first map ended up close with the Shirts on top by two at the end of the map. Shirts played DM14 to their advantage, playing the map in close quarters and keeping the enemy down. Ho did an awsome job as coach and was a strong influence in the win.

Skins played CHK on Sunday. Skins got out to a slow start on the first map OSP5 which led to the loss. In the second map OSP6 it was a frag fest each point was close and we didn't get enough bounces : ) .

Rosters for the Semi Finals will be out soon. We will message those chosen for the Semi Final Match.

Nov. 17/2003: I've released the trial version of hodm5 today. Please play around in the map when you get a chance and let me know your thoughts. It's on the VegasHo Server.

Nov. 17/2003: On Thursday Shirts played  hard fought match against 311. Although playing well in the first map and losing by only 2, bad timing and minor mistakes led to our downfall in the second and third maps.

On Sunday, Skins played SZ. Skins played them to a victory in the first map, only to drop the remaining 2 maps. In an interview with SS Sally after the match he stated that          " We played like a bunch of NEWBS on the last 2 maps"

We are all anxious to correct our mistakes as we all know we are experienced tournament players and those mistakes made don't happen often. We all make mistakes. We just have to learn from them and try not to make the same ones again.

So Buck Up :)) .

Nov. 11/2003: Well another week of success for SS*, with both teams scoring decisive 9-3 victories. By UFC scoring, you get 1 point for showing up for a match and 2 points for a victory in a game, for a possible 9 points. Both teams showed exceptional teamwork. It is evident that our extra dedication to practice and the team philosophy is really paying off. We still have some work to do however I think we can all honestly say that we have taken our games to the next level.  Good Job Guys...  And wOOt wOOt

We have two VERY important matches this week SS*Skins are playing SZ. This should prove to be a win if we don't under estimate SZ and their rail potential. The SS*Shirts play 311. This again should prove interesting as both teams are railing teams. If both teams play like we know we can we should come away with another 2 victories this week.

Both the Skins team and the Shirts team sport a record of 3 wins and 2 losses.

Stay tuned for times and rosters of these matches.  - ReaPer

Oct 23/2003: I want to proudly announce another Clan staff promotion.  Someone that has been extremely deserving of the title of OFFICER. SS**VegasHo has been promoted to the rank of officer.  Also I will be flying 3 stars on my tag now to signify me as "the" leader of the clan.  With the promotion of SS**VegasHo, that leaves one open spot for a TOP, which will be filled before the AZFL starts.  There will be some transition period as SS**VegasHo takes on his new responsibilities.
-WingRdr

Oct 21/2003: We continue to grow! Please welcome SS*3vol+1on to the SS* crew.  And with our growth we have added 2 TOPS to the ranks to assist us in preparing for a  3 team submission to AZFL.  Please congratulate SS*^Kloser and SS*^Pokeman to the rank of TOP Enlisted. With the new additions we now can have 1 Officer and 2 TOPS to assist EACH team.  This will help ensure that SS* stays well managed as we grow and also allows us to involve many more players in organized competition.
-WingRdr

Oct 19/2003: Well, here are some previews of the map I've been working hard on. There's still a ton to get done, and lots to clean up, but at least you can view the general idea here. I've built it with 4v4 UFT in mind. Once I get to a packaging point, I sure could use some feedback. It's called TeamHo, and it has a CHER room. :)

Oct 17/2003: SS*Skins battled with clan TLK2. While we were cleaning TLK2 off the floor the first two maps, we got entirely too boastful, and blew the wad on the last map. We wont let that happen again.  SS*Skins 7 - TLK2 5

Oct 9/2003: First round UFC Action! SS*Skins battled with clan PQ Wednesday evening.  SS*Skins took control of quad on TEDDM1 and maintained lead to victory.  On the second map OSPDM6, PQ showed their brawling ability and kept SS*Skins beat back even though a valiant last 2 minutes was fought by SS*Skins to narrow the gap, it was not enough, PQ wins OSPDM6.  On the final deciding map for the match, SS*Skins locked down the red room and consistently made PQ's Quad ineffective against the tight defensive posture. SS*Skins control the map and game tempo to victory! Final UFC points, SS*Skins 7 - PQ 5.

The SS*Shirts team tonight went against the always tough DFA group.  DFA has some outstanding talent, and took SS*Shirts seriously as evident in their starting lineup including the always awesome DFA*PEET.  SS*Shirts did excellent in sticking together, but the onslaught of PEET proved to be the steel wedge that split the log.  DFA wins TEDDM1.  OSPDM6 however showed SS*Shirts scrapping ability.  DFA, though without PEET that round, were unable to keep the tenacious SS*Shirts from taking a decisive victory on the map.  The third and final map for the match win had DFA concerned about victory, and they rotated 3 of the players out from the OSPDM6 map, returning PEET and the battle was on.  SS*Shirts were basically over powered and with the unexpected lagout of SS*KillerBeez, we had to do a quick swap out and bring in a cold player to fill the roster.  SS*Workingman stepped up to the challenge, even though his ping was near 200.  He gave it his best and did excellent job of softening them up, but alas, DFA wins Q3DM14TMP.  Final UFC score, DFA 7, SS*Shirts 5

** Available demo's on FTP server in UFC Tourney folder.

Oct 7/2003: We want to welcome another experienced UFT player to our ranks, SS*BuzzedBad (some members will remember him as Thumper).

Oct 2/2003:
I want to welcome back to the team, SS*Kirby, and SS*-=V=-. SS*Kirby has been added to the UFC SS*Shirts team.  SS*-=V=- will be ready to play the AZFL at end of year.  Glad to have both of you back!

Sep 20/2003: Some new items to talk about. First lets all welcome SS*Grim (former DFM-Grim) to the clan.  SS*Grim brings experience and talent to the team and we look forward to seeing him in action in upcoming events.

Speaking of events, it appears as though we may be having an interim tourney event at the end of this month or early next.  L0D may sponsor it, click here to learn more.

Also in effort to assist AZFL with standard configs, I have been working on our public server to provide a more flexible standard using AZFL/LIC configs as a guideline.  I have much work yet to do, but things are shaping up.  In a nutshell, it will allow a variety of STANDARD setting to be /callvote'd on servers adhering to AZFL standards. for example :

QuakeFest Olympics: http://www.clansharpshooter.com/qfo-2003 Starts 12/6/03
QuakeFest Olympics is an offshoot from the annual QuakeFest LAN party hosted by Clan SharpShooter (SS). This event involves several elements including triple rocket jumps, speed strafing, strafe jumping, plasma climbing, plasma sliding, and combinations of each. The events are broken down into individual skills, and overall course completion. Some events are ranked based on best time, others based on judge voting. Judges are hand picked and selected by SS. We have selected judges based on our belief they are the most trustworthy and knowledgeable. Winners of each Skill are selected, as well as Grand Champion 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners (based on total points earned).

Sep 11/2003: Who does this remind you of?    :)

Sep 3/2003: As I promised some mIRC folks, here are some requested demos, and a couple extra fun demos:

DFATC-Course-Extended - This is again the 6 step main course on DFATC. However, this time, I've done each one a few times and in different ways.

DFATC-DoubleRocket - This is a double rocket to get from one side of room to the other. Yeah, yeah, many can do this. Though some can't. So here it is.

cos1-RedRoom! - The eagerly awaited RedRoom. I'm only doing the first curved wall here, and then preview what's next. :) I'm still working on the next step in the RedRoom. The trick to the curvy wall, is to start turning towards the curve slightly before you even reach it. Therefore you are already in position to slide it at the correct angle.

cos1-PlasmaJump - In practice for step two of the RedRoom, this shows how to leap over a hole, into a wall, start plasma climbing, switch walls, and get to another ledge. Whew! The trick to leaping a space and smacking a wall only to start plasma climbing, is to come at it at a slight angle. Heading straight for the wall will prove fruitless.

cos1-GreenRoom! - This shows you each of the green rooms, a couple times, except for the last one, which I still can't seem to perfect. Can you get to the end of it? Please tell me.

cos1-PlasmaFun - This is Plasma distance tricks. The trick behind getting distance left or right, is to start at a slight angle opposite the direction you're headed. When you get moving up, and reach the desired height, increase your angle so you start moving that direct even faster, while holding your height steady.

If you've got a particular skill you need helpful demo's on, let me know.

Aug 31/2003:
Some demos for fun practice.

DFATC-Course - This is the 6 step main course on DFATC. I used plasma on the high walls, though a double rocket works too. This is simple, but fun to learn if you can't do it yet.

DFATC-PlasmaFun - This is a fun plasma trick. Climb one wall, switch walls, and go for red armor on other side of room.

cos1-LittleBlueRoom - Here's a plasma demo for the small blue room in cos1. If you still can't get to the glass roof top, watch this short demo a couple times.

cos1-SpeedStrafing - I mentioned getting over 2100ups speed strafing down the middle of the long hall. I think this one gets over 2200, but I've been know to go 2400. Also, try this neat trick: Crouch down backwards, and BFG the floor while jumping. It's called Sliding and I've gotten well over 3kups like that. ;)

If you don't already know how to set up your game to practice these maps, here's the information:

1.) Load q3, single player, skirmish, choose any map, and don't add any bots, etc.
2.) Once map loaded, pull down console and type /devmap cos1_beta7b
or whatever map you want to load (i.e. DFATC). This loads map with cheats enabled.
3.) Pull down the console, type /god and then use /give all

You're now all set to start practicing. G'Luck.

July 28/2003: LIC Semifinals Results - Casual Div - A great game was played by Crusader, Poke, Spidey, Sally and our excellent coach Reaper. However, [B] snuck in there and stole the game. In the end, the Casual Division played 8 games and only lost two matches. Very impressive indeed - All the way to the finals. I can't wait for next year. We rock!

The Competitive Div also loses out on their Quarterfinals match to cm. I know the team is the best group in SS and will only prove to get better and better. Again, next year will be an even more impressive tourney.

I believe a Casual SS vs. Competitive SS match is on order here. :p

-VegasHo

July 28/2003: Sally - Strafe Jumping on OPC1? Whoda thunked?!  :)

Demo1: Well, in this demo I make 3 botched attempts and then finally make the fourth.
Demo2
: Here, I seriously botch 4 attempts, and then make it perfectly.
Demo3
: No messing around here, I make it on the first try, botch the second and then for the grand finale, I go so fast, I jump completely over the 8th pad.

I've noticed WingRdr (practicing alone) getting to at least the 7th or 8th pad lately. I'm sure he'll start making it soon. He does it it quite differently, doing alternating strafes immediately. I prefer two left strafes before alternating. But he gets moving, so I'm impressed. There are many ways you can start strafing. Kloser is looking serious about it and making valiant attempts as he learns. I'm betting he will be the third teammate to make it, with possibly Crusader right behind him.

-VegasHo

July 27/2003: Ok - I need to rant here. Why is it acceptable to only gaming web sites that downloads must be held on fifty million mirror servers? And when you go to download one friggin file, you must open ten linking windows to actually find the damned file you want to download? You know, on most sites, you simply click on the file to download and it starts coming down to your PC. WTF are these gaming websites thinking? They always have the coolest looking sites, but they sure have earned themselves a big fat friggin ZERO for functionality. I can understand a couple mirrors. But those mirror links better have the download on the first page it opens. Having to dig 10 windows deep for the file is STOOPIT.

-VegasHo

July 25/2003: Casual SS to play Casual [B] in Semifinals! Our lineup will consist of Crusader, Spidey, Poke, and myself. Lets get in a practice Saturday together. Cover our map picks and prepare mentally. I want everyone in tip top shape for a TEAM play Sunday! We'll need to use every secret weapon we have and we'll come out on top. It'll be a blast no matter what!

July 20 /2003: Strafe Jumping! Yes - it's not just for kids. It's something YOU can do right now to possibly improve your game. Strafe jumping is a very daunting task to learn (i know, I'm still trying), however, it basically gives you greater speed when jumping and greater distances. With the drawspeed command, you can read your speed number and identify exactly what kind of jump gives you the best speed and air. A strafe jump basically is jumping while looking at small left and right angles. Using the technique called circle jumping you can achieve jumps you've only thought cheaters could accomplish. The reason is simply because most people give up on learning it. I think it's worth it. But that's just me.

Here are some demo's I recorded this evening. I'm making jumps that can NOT be achieved by simply making a straight jump. You MUST be strafing in order to achieve them. All of these jumps -could- be achieved without strafing by running great distances and building up your speed, however, the jumps you will see in these demo's are simple one or two step hops and still getting the speed and distance.

Map: pro-q3dm6 Task: Jump from Rocket Ledge (above YA) to the rail gun (or back).
Watch this one closely, and you will see running is not required. Click here.

Map: pro-q3dm6 Task: Skip over a set of pillars and jump right to the red armor (or back).
Most enemies use RL to hit a pillar while your making your way to RA. Using  this jump will bypass those nasty splash damage causing pillars, and surprise your foe. Click here.

Map: teddm1 (ospdm5) Task: Jump from RA room ledge to upper path (leading to quad).
This is the fastest way to quad, and also the most surprising to enemies camping outside of RA. Click here.

If you're ready to learn more and start strafe jumping over amazing distances - check out this excellent tutorial. http://trickingq3.com/Tutorials/Strafing_Tutorial.html

There are also some important config settings. I highly recommend them:
Com_MaxFps 125
Ch_drawspeed 1
Pmove_Fixed 1

I'll be practicing this frequently, so if you're interested, join in.

July 20 /2003: Casual Team defeats DFM again by just +1 round. A very close match, and fun all over again. We really enjoy playing these guys. They are all real cool guys. Casual takes first place in their group and will play in the division finals.

Competitive Team didn't fare as well, with a loss to X and dh. However, a chance still remains for playoff games.

July 12 /2003: We are about to start our third round of games tonight. Although, the casual division already played their match against OTH and whooped some booootay! They even had four (count em, 4) players this time (and a coach). For some reason, the casual div keeps getting up against teams that can't seem to control an area and have no teamwork skills. Match that against the excellent teamwork play by the casual division leaders like Crusader, Killer, Poke, Spidey, Low and yours truly - they don't have a chance! Casual plays DFM this evening. Given prior history of matches played, SS is expected to do their thang and make a stomping. While I expect casual to rule this group, when we are placed against the other groups with teams like DLC and DFA, we'll have to work five times harder for points. No doubt. So keep it up, use these kids as practice for the big boys, keep it cool, and SS will take the Casual Division Gold. Special thanks to Reaper for being an outstanding coach. Couldn't do it without him.

Competitive group is either going to win by any number of points and be the grand masters with bragging rights, or they are just going to hang them heads low and watch the tourney go on without them. Tonight is very important when they vs. Xhale. We all know the players we've got stacked for the match, so tighten it up girls and play like you do at practice! Oh - and No Pressure.  ;)

On another note, I thought Pirates of the Caribbean was 'ok'. I wouldn't give it 5 stars, but I wasn't totally bored either. There was one really funny scene, where they portrayed the famous setting at Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean tour-ride (the prisoners begging the dog to bring the jail key to them). If you've been to it, you can't miss the humor of this one. Hopefully League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will be better...

-SAL

July 1 /2003: Well our first weekend is over and SS is a force to be reckoned with, our Competitive Group defeated OTH in a convincing style 15-12 and 17-14. On Sunday they were defeated however they will be back in force and well prepared for the next match against DH.

The Casual Group kicked some major booty. They defeated OTH in the first match beating them 16-1 and 25-6 (OTH had 3 players). In the second match against LAVA they also came up with two controlling wins, 19-4 and 16-6, their awesome team play and position on the map made for  easy wins.....Good Job Guys

First match is Saturday...we need everyone to show for practices this week in preparation.

June 9/2003: As most of you know, we are sponsoring 2 LIC2 servers for the upcoming tourney.  We are also providing a Ventrilo Server dedicated for referee's of the tourney.  The goal is to provide the smoothest tourney yet.  This is a high profile tourney, and the upcoming AZFL promises to be even bigger with more coverage.  Clan Sharpshooter is proud to be sponsoring and involved in these UFT community events.

June 1/2003:

We have assigned rosters for both the COMP and CASUAL divisions for the LIC2 Tourney, see Officers or Tops for assistance.  We will be Practicing in 2 groups *most* of the time.  So know your group and your server location for practices.  Ventrilo will be configured on practice nights for BOTH groups, so we can all meet there...

March 17, 2003 : Well another Tourney comes to a close. Great effort by all who participated. We failed to qualify for the playoff round, however, we picked up some strategies and tactical maneuvers that will greatly assist us in upcoming practices.

We have a rail tourney coming up soon in which we will be entering two teams. This is a single elimination tourney, so one loss and you're out. February 5, 2003 : Join me in welcoming SS*Kloser to the clan!  SS*Kloser will be playing in the Casual AZFL with our buds in LOD, to complete a previous commitment, but will be joining us for the next tourney or league roster.

The AZFL is off and running, we had a very close match with Team.Alpha in preseason, and a hefty lose to Night Patrol 49 for league opener.  They are an awesome squad and sure to be there for last round in playoff.  With them past us, we are now focusing on putting our practices to good use on upcoming opponents.  Visit AZFL Website often for updates.

October 15, 2002 : I know, about damn time! (My bad).  We have been so busy last 2 months with IAF Tourney.  But we have lots to talk about.  First everyone should know Whirlwind, Mudbogger and FlyMouche are no longer with the clan.  We wish them well.

We are getting ready for the first round of the RAIL-ONLY playoff this coming Sunday.  Congrats to the Rail Team.  The All Weapons team did a damn good job in the tourney.  We saw extreme improvement in the Clan's TEAM SKILL and many members stepped up to the challenge and had career high performances.  Although we did not win many matches, our showing was 5 times better than AA tourney.  We learned many things in both tourney's and will continue to work to improve our ability to keep the lead and finish on top of the score.

We will be electing a replacement TOP this week.  I will be announcing the new TOP this Thursday.

August 21, 2002 : Dang time flies when your having fun...Lots of new stuff to talk about.  First we have had to suspend recruiting until after tourney.  Second, congratulate SS*^[Crazy][Wizard],  SS*^Whirlwind  and SS*^Spike on their promotions to TOP Enlisted members.  Everyone should have received several emails today from me on rosters, conduct, recruiting and the promotions.  If you did not, I don't have your email addy or it is not correct.  So contact me ASAP so I can get it in my list.  And last but not least, welcome our new members to the clan.  SS*HoneyBunny, SS*IanTBF, SS*Bl4ckM4g1c, SS*Sally, SS*Ice^Bitch. All these members are outstanding editions to our clan, and may be the last new members for some time.  Please help all them get oriented and get up to speed in aspects of our clan.

If you have not done so, go to the IAF website and review tourney and rules as well as clans and rosters so you know who we will be playing.  I have to update our schedule page yet, but the Tourney site has the schedule also so check it out.

August 1, 2002 : Welcome SS*Puff-n-Stuff to the clan.  Some of you may have heard about the "CHEATING" that we had been accused of at the Yankee Freeze server.  As we all know we are EXTREMELY ANTI-CHEAT,  and I was shocked to see several of our members listed on the CHEATERS webpage at the Killers Inc. website.  I contacted the Admin for the server and together we worked out what the  cheat ACTUALLY was.  It was caused by  a bind that many of us had that looks like this :

BIND  x  say "Thanks  got lucky ;-)"

The problem is the ; (semicolon).  It is used to seperate COMMANDS on the command line, and once encountered, assumes the NEXT item is a  command, in this case -) .  The new UFreeze has built in ANTI-CHEAT logging, that logs any unrecognized command as a cheat.  Obviously this is no cheat.  The Admin at Yankee was thankful for pointing out the error and apologized for the misunderstanding, and corrected the CHEATER list on the website.  Our members have been instructed to search their personal  .CFG files for key binds that use ; for anything OTHER than command stacking, and change it.

Also of note the IAF Tourney has posted schedules for the first weekend of the All Weapons Tourney,  I have the dates listed on our schedule page.  I will be sending the email out August 2, for the vote on the tourney teams we will enter.

July 24, 2002 : And we keep growing...Welcome  SS*Rhynox to the clan.

July 9, 2002 : Sorry about the delay in site updates, with the 4th of July holiday I have fallen behind AGAIN!  Anyway, lots to talk about this time.  First let's welcome SS*OverRide to the clan!  We do have a registered IRC channel @ enterthegame #ss_clan.  Click Here for more details on the IRC channel.

Also...We are signed up the IAF Tourney, both ALL WEAPONS (ufreeze) and RAIL ONLY.  The Tourney is supposed to start Sept 2002.

I have created a new schedule page for the clan to keep everyin informed.  Please bookmark it and check frequently.  We are gonna need everyone to list their PREFERRED/AVAILABLE dates and times for scrims, and matches.  We are trying to put together events that will allow our shift workers and  those in other timezones to participate.  So those that have more time in the mornings, weekends etc.. and be scheduled in for these events.  Please click here to Email SS**WingRdr with your info...

June 24, 2002 : I want to congratulate SS**Reaper on his appointement to Clan Officer status and SS*^AirbrushMan for his outstanding recruiting and new tag designation ( SS*^ ) as a "Top"  Enlisted Member.  SS**Blaster and I have been extremely pleased with the growth of our clan.  In preparation of the next level for the clan we felt it was time to add another "officer" to the ranks.  As we grow more will be added.

I am still working with the ISP, and other providers (and options) for our MAIN server.  I know the 60 sec lag problem sucks, but I got to give them some time to fix, would be 30-40 days after T1 order to get online, so my quickest solution is with the ISP....more updates later.
